The Naked Egg Experiment

We did a science experiment by making a naked egg.  We soaked an egg in vinegar.  It melted the shell off but left the membrane intact.  The egg was soft and could bounce if dropped from short heights.  You could see the egg yolk inside and sometimes feel it move around when it was shaken.  We added food coloring to make the egg change colors (learning about osmosis, although the girls didn't quite get that concept).  It started out as just red dye, but they later decided to add blue dye also.  Then we dehydrated the egg by putting it in corn syrup and then salt.  After playing with the dehydrated egg we re-hydrated it in water and then played with it again to see how high we could drop it before it would pop.  Of course the girls were more concerned about being dirty then actually participating - so Daddy had to step in and drop it.  Lilli kept commenting on how "gross" it was when it popped.
